ONE TWO THREE, INTO THE GATES OF MISERY! This is a shot of the drive up to the boarding blocks, my first sight of Nyeri Primary when I arrived there, a month shy of my 11th birthday and without a friend in the world on 5th May 1953, deposited from a GreyLine bus after 36 miles of 'matope'. The experience of driving down and then up the escarpment between Kiganjo (actually Nyeri Station in those days) and the school, with the bus travelling sideways much of the time and an attack by the Mickey Mice (remember them?) a distinct possibility aged me several years! On the back of the 1961 pictures my mother has written "After Michael winning the Junior Solo at the Kenya Music Festival in July 1961 and the School was 2nd in the Junior Choir competition. Outside the National Theatre 3 July 1961."I am on the left of Mr Jenner, with David Montgomery just in front of me. I can't remember any other names, though faces are familiar.
